Note: This was a project I've been thinking to pursue... The Harbinger is a story of human survival against the atrocities of nature...

Introduction:

250 million years from now Earth’s landmass will merge into a single continuous continent and will be called Pangaea Ultima. In the Pangaea Ultima scenario, subduction at the western Atlantic, east of the Americas (signs of it can be seen today, the Puerto Rico Trench), leads to the subduction of the Atlantic mid-ocean ridge followed by subduction destroying the Atlantic oceanic basin, causing the Atlantic Ocean to close, bringing the Americas back together with Africa and Europe. As with most supercontinents, the interior of Pangaea Ultima would probably become a semi-arid desert prone to temperature extremes.

About the Myth:

The popular myth tells us that humans had reached the peak of technological advancement but were ceased because of mass extinction. This event close to the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction left the planet almost lifeless unstoppable even with such progression. Only 5% of human specie had survived the extinction event which will lead us to the formation of Ophelia's colony... Those who lost their lives during such event predicted about the supercontinents and built a device that would stop the formation which will be massively destructive than the event which had happened to them.

Mid-day

The radar is gone and the kid is trying to fix it. We’ll be in this harbour for three days. It’s hard to think that we needed to count the nights to know the time. Men from East Proxima said that they’re having winter in the middle of the year. That’s when people started to lose track of time.

I’m tired seeing vermillion sky. It’s been like this forever. The sun is getting hotter each and everyday yet we still need these heavy clothes for the night. The kid’s still fixing the radar.

We don’t usually see stars in the harbour but there’s a place where we can find endless stars which seemingly curtains the world. Everyone’s needed down the basement. It gets colder at night.

A lot has been discussed. The oldman said that the myth is real. A technology exist which can change the course of the planet. It’s hard to be the 23rd generation of the harbinger. I hold the biggest responsibility to save mankind and I don’t know where to start.

We bought parts for the radar. We bought them from the merchants. They said they’re from the South. Source of the parts we acquired were unknown. They don’t want to tell us. Regardless, Pierre said it’ll be fixed by morning. Read half of the book. All accounts were written in Germany (Northwest perhaps). He always said that the most important thing to him is in Germany and it’s not his wife.

Olikori the Acrobat

Olikori is from a small town Northwest part of the forming Pangaea. She's working as a trapeze artist in a popular circus. Olikori promised herself to join the Harbinger crew and be of help to her people. During the process of joining the Harbinger, Ophelia asked her how can she be of help and Olikori straightly answered "by using my trapeze skills, I can fix the airship while moving" and she was outright accepted.

Orestes is from the center of the forming Pangaea. He belonged to a settlement which was against the fulfillment of the myth and their colony suggested that they should use the records of the count to built a sanctuary rather than putting their lives in danger over an unknown technology. This settlement is one of the few who rebel against the count and is living independently finding their own way to survival. Orestes escaped from their camp believing the wisdom of Count Omora and became his right hand. Since then Orestes became the body of Omora, the one who acts upon the wisdom and plans of the count.

Omora the Count

Count Omora is the one who built the airship Harbinger in accordance that Ophelia should fulfill her mission of finding the lost technology which will bring forth human salvation. Count Omora is over 120 years old but was being kept alive by a machine and a liquid flowing through his body. Omora was known to be an alchemist and he is the only person who holds the accounts for the 13th generation’s lost technology. His progressions with machineries are evidences that people had already reached the peak of technological advancement. He wishes to see sanctuary for humans, see the truth from the untold stories of mass extinction survivors and fulfill his promise to his deceased family that Ophelia will bring salvation.

Pierre the Mechanic

Note: Pierre is also an orphan like Palkit and Lucia...

Pierre is an orphan boy found by Maria. They lived together in an abandoned building before the Harbinger found them. Since Maria and Pierre were good with electronics and machines they were permitted to become the Harbinger's crew. Pierre is the one responsible for the airship's machinery.

Note: I like playing my DS and I'm quite interested with the character of Lucia that's why drew them together...

Palkit and Lucia were originally Siamese twins. They were separated before they reached the age of 2. Their mother died giving birth to them and then their father took care of them both. The Harbinger found them North part of Proxima. They were living all by themselves. It was told that their father died 6 months before they were found.

Palkit is more mature than Lucia. She's the one who finds food and work for their survival while Lucia is good with electronics like her father. It was due to Lucia's transmission which had them located. Lucia is a little bit odd. She prefers to be alone and only talks to her sister Palkit.

This character actually resembles me. First time I've made myself part of a story. I love gadgest so my character here is also like me. She's like a supporting character for Ophelia.

THE HARBINGER
Maria of South

In the Proxima era, there are numerous scattered independent towns caused by political misunderstandings. Humans were being pulled back by time and people are just starting to create colonies. Skeptics of the myth rebel against the faith of the Harbingers. Almost all of the town’s people believed that salvation will be impossible.

It was then that Maria was taken from the South and became the Harbinger's crew together with a boy named Pierre. She was exiled from her town believing that the myth was true. Maria then journeyed over the mountains to see the large airship Harbinger. While traveling to a small town called Gafur, she met Pierre who was an orphan boy. They lived together in an abandoned building for a year waiting for the Harbinger to pass by. After becoming a crew she was assigned to navigate the Harbinger for Maria’s father Dr. Salvador Santagati was known to be the best geomatics engineer and holds the most accurate world map of the new forming neopangaean supercontinents which happens to be in her possession.

Note: This image was actually based from Samura's Hyakurin (one of the art cover from "Blade of the Immortal" manga).

History of her design:

Ophelia was actually meant to be an entry for the ANIMAX Fashion Ability 2007. However, since I have become a finalist for the ANIMAX Fashion Ability 2006 I was pretty much disqualified (well I didn't know that former finalists are not allowed to enter anymore)... Moreover, the design was actually inspired by the game Vagrant Story.

I am fond of Victorian fashion and I added up some futuristic design to Ophelia since the story is from the post-apocalyptic timeline.

About Ophelia:

Ophelia is the 23rd generation of Harbinger (which happens to be the name of their airship as well). Her ancestors were the ones who created the device which will bring forth human salvation and stop the super continent cycle in which believed to be the reason for human extinction... Accounts and some evidences show that the 13th generation of Earth's colony (the ones who predicted about the supercontinents cycle and built the technology which would stop the merging of the continents) was wiped out with the same event as the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction which happened 300 million years ago...

Moreover this was originally drawn over white canson paper given life with colored pencils. Background was edited. I love rustic art and I love the brown palette that's why I tend to make this one look really old... ^_^
